Intermediate Surfacing Sword

This is a fairly small model that took a fairly large amount of time. One of our surfacing assignments in my intermediate SolidWorks class was to create a sword. We had to follow a strict set of guidelines for the handle, but were told that the sky was the limit for the blade’s shape and styling. Naturally, I took this as a challenge.

At the time I remembered seeing a post that someone recently made about their attempt at modeling a frayed knot in SolidWorks. It’s insane what some people can manage to model, but this got me thinking “How hard could a single knot be to model?” 2 grueling days later and I found out my answer. I used a single 3D-Sketch for the blade profile, and used a series of sweeps to get the final blade profile finished. It was really entertaining to try and figure out, and I don’t think it’s something I’ll be doing again lol.
